"I've always been a storyteller. Pomenia's stories and storybooks are a way for me to express emotions, convey wisdom, conjure up magic and create connections between people. "
I’m Petronella Grahn – a fairy tale artist, storyteller, author, illustrator and mother of six children. Pomenia was born from the bedtime stories I told my six children – moments when magic conjured itself up and dreams were more than dreams.
Since 1997 , I have tried to bring magic and fairy tales to everyday life. In my world, however, art is not just a visual experience, technology and trends, but a journey where silliness and joy dance hand in hand – and where the wavy fairy tales and secret hearts of childhood flutter away. In 2015, I wrote and illustrated my first storybook, Keijun Taikadust. And as it should be, that was the beginning of a journey that is endless.
You won’t be surprised when I tell you that I love real fairy tales – and yes, the more I get older. The importance of storybooks and the created fantasy world is huge for me. After all, they are not just words on paper or pictures on the pages of books, but a gateway to a world of impossible imagination and great adventure – a world that is open to all of us, regardless of age, gender or nationality.
I believe that fairy tales can change the world – one story, one child, one beating heart and one moment at a time. Pomenia’s stories are like a mirror that shows something of the past that has already been forgotten,
something of the present – and a lot of what could still be. With the power of imagination and fairy tales, we travel to a time and place where dreams come true and every moment is full of surprises, magic and hope.
Pomen is not scolded, explained for the joy of explaining, presents anything ready-made or grabbed from elsewhere, but lets the adventurer imagine his own, use his imagination, creativity and ability to THINK for himself.
The books I have written and illustrated are about courage, friendship and the belief that anything is possible – if you only dare to dream.
They invite both children and adults to stop, look at the world through fairytale eyes and remember that magic still exists – right nearby.
"With creativity, play and imagination, you can do anything!"
